Today is Emily Kate’s FIRST Birthday and I couldn’t let the day pass by without acknowledging it in some small way…

I recently met the Mehlinger’s and Emily Kate instantly touched my heart. Their session had been planned for months, although I didn’t anticipate to fall for this little girl quiet like I did. Before our shoot, Christie shared with me that the last time they had family photos taken was the day they found out that Emily Kate had something “extra”. And that she does…she is extra special. Knowing this little small fact, I wanted their experience with me and time with me to go perfectly. It was quiet near freezing….and for those of you that may not know, here’s a quick PSA: cold weather and babies aren’t always a winning combination.  But Emily & her big sister Lily were total troopers and we got some wonderful family shots. I then twisted Christie’s arm and talked her into bringing Emily Kate back to my studio the following weekend to get some special shots of her alone. I’m so glad she is easy to persuade! 😉

This little miracle has come so far..here a few images Christie sent me the night after our shoot. This is Emily right after her heart was made whole at just 4 months old:
